Farmer’s Market – Bartonville

My three boys and I visited our closest Farmer’s Market today at Bartonville Town Center  just across the street from Lantana.

They are open on Wednesday and Saturday mornings from 8 am until sell out.  It is situated on the field next to he Town Center shops nestled under a few shade trees.

We excitedly went from booth to booth.  I checked out the produce and the boys caught some roly-poly bugs.

The first booth was a lady selling fresh eggs from the chickens that she raises.  I was really excited about making this purchase because I have always wanted to try fresh eggs.

Fresh eggs from the Farmers Market

She went on to explain that the bluish tinted eggs were from the Americana chickens.  These are the fancy-looking chickens with lots of feathers.  The other eggs were laid by her black and brown chickens.  She encouraged us to do a taste test with our eggs from the grocery store.  The Americana eggs in particular are supposed to be much richer.  I can’t wait to try!

We also found a bunch of amazing produce.  The farms are all very local – within 30 miles or so.  I bought peaches, jalapeno peppers, onions, potatoes, plums, strawberries and some fresh pasta.

I had discounted this farmer’s market in the past because it is small.  I was missing out.

After years of grocery store produce shopping I had forgotten how incredible fresh fruit smells!  The strawberries smell amazing and completely different than what I buy at the store.  I can’t wait until Wednesday to go back because we are already out of peaches.

Yum!

If you don’t live near Bartonville, please check out this list compiled by the Dallas Morning News of Farmer’s Markets in the DFW Area.

Happy shopping…

Thanks for featuring this- I didn’t know that Bartonville had a farmers market. I’m going to have to take my kids out there soon. Do they take credit or is it cash only?

I LOVE the Bartonville Farmer’s Market! And size does NOT matter! What matters is that it’s in season, local, and fresh.

I love finding new ways to incorporate local, in season goods into my family’s diet. Here’s one of my favorite ways:

Buy local. It’s good for our farmers, good for our economy, and good for the planet since you didn’t buy a tomato with a “BigFoot” sized carbon footprint since it came all the way here from California on fossil fuels.

Alrighty then…I am heading there on Saturday! I, too, thought it was small and didn’t have much…guess I was WRONG!!!

I want to know what you thought of the eggs. That’s one of the greatest things I’ve read in our research for owning laying hens…that the eggs taste amazing and are so much more tasty than grocery store eggs. Let me know what you think!

    Hi,
We are the local honey producer, Meadow View Honey Farm. Our bees have had a great year so Saturday, July 4th, we will be bringing our Local (Denton County) honey to the market. The honey is wildflower and clover with a delicious light flavor.

We will also have posters explaining the extraction process so bring on all who are interested in beekeeping and learning about this precious resource. Hope to see you there!

Yes, We will be at the Bartonville Farmers market every Saturday until we sell out for the season. We have had a high demand this year so we hope to see you soon. I expect in less than a month we will be out. We’d be happy to explain the beekeeping process to your children.

LOVE the Bartonville market! I love letting Mother Nature tell me what to have for dinner, and following her seasonal rhythms.

New things to try with what’s in season now: grilled peaches, cucumber soup, chard fritatta (w/ those yummy fresh eggs!), freezer jam.
