Friday – Fever Blisters

First of all – why did God even invent these things? What purpose do they serve? The are itchy, painful and extremely unsightly…so what is their purpose??? Besides making me feel extremely self conscious and totally gross, I mean.
I went to visit my boyfriend this past weekend in Florida and on the last day there I woke up to that all-too familiar tingling on my lips. Afraid of what was waiting to be discovered, I took my time getting out of bed and in to the bathroom. Sure enough – when I looked in the mirror, there they were. Not the usual one, but two; one on each side of my mouth. Crap. Not 10 minutes later he came to the apartment to pick me up. Great. On our last day together I’d leave him with memories not of my tan legs or my new haircut – nope – I’d leave him with memories of blisters on-my-FACE. I was so worried about it that I yelled from the bathroom, “Babe? I have blisters on my face.”
“Awww, hon, I’m so sorry. Is there anything I can do to make you feel better?”
“No, I just want you to know because I look gross.”
“First of all, you can’t ever look gross, and second of all – I don’t love you for the 1inch section surrounding your lips…I love you for who you are and for how you make me praise and thank God for you!”
What do you say to that? I knew he was telling the truth! Additionally, I figured now was as good a time as any – because as our relationship progresses and we talk of marriage and such – I’ve learned that love really is as the Bible describes it: patient, kind, not boastful or arrogant, quick to forgive and not holding grudges. Seeing it in this light, I realize that my boyfriend does truly love me. And getting to see that in action spoke much louder than all the words he could ever say.
