I have decided that I need to share some of my secrets when it comes to blogging & all that good stuff. The expertise that I bring to the table is from the past few years of experience as a blog designer to the stars to some pretty amazing bloggers online!
Today, I want to chat about hosting. My favorite platform for blogging is a Self Hosted WordPress Blog – which is where you are right now! I will get into all of the reasons why later, but today I want to talk with you about choosing a HOST for your self-hosted WordPress blog.
BurbMom started its hosting journey over at Godaddy.com. It was an easy, affordable way to get started. Domain names cost around $10-12 a year and their dashboard is fairly easy to navigate. Godaddy was a good platform until Burb Mom started getting a some traffic. **In case you were wondering, we get between 300 and 1200 unique visitors each day** At that point, the sites SLOWED down dramatically. This happened on several Godaddy accounts that I was managing – none of them were anywhere near disc space capacity or bandwidth capacity…they were just slow!!!!
Your dear website was created for the multi-tasking mama – there was no way you were sitting there waiting for BurbMom to load! I had to do something!
I called Holly to inform her the site was going to be down for a day or so & I completely ignored my kids for about 48 hours as we moved over to Bluehost!
Bluehost is pretty affordable at approximately$6.95 a month – this gave you unlimited space and unlimited bandwidth and they throw in a free domain name!
Please let me know if you are considering a self-hosted blog – I have lots more advice where this comes from.
Shauna runs a blog-design business when she isn’t suping up BurbMom.net to be the best website for DFW Moms!
